Halkirk Hohner Morino Day
by Neil MacGregor
Here is a snap from the inaugural Halkirk Hohner Morino Day. It was organised by Jock Campbell, Nicky McMichan and myself as a day for owners and enthusiasts of all Hohner Morino models to get together for a tune. We had planned for some time to hold such an event in the village of Halkirk and luckily Ncky was in nearly Thurso with the band that weekend. Halkirk Youth Club kindly donated the use of the hall for the afternoon and a fine session of music and refreshments was enjoyed by players, dancers and listeners. Matthew MacLennan also made it along with his Morino but didn’t make it into the photo as he had a teaching commitment that morning. We hope to make the event a yearly affair, to compliment the Button-Box Gatherings in Fife and Aviemore/Inverness. Although we haven’t selected a date for next year, we have been offered the use of the much larger Ross Institute in Halkirk and so next year plan to have an afternoon free for all session and get-together, followed by a charity dance. Although we are particularly keen to see as many Hohner Morino models as possible, we are in no way strict about it and would be delighted for any box players, fiddlers, drummers etc as well as listeners and dancers to make the trip north to join in the fun. They would be guaranteed a warm welcome.
