On Monday 10th November 2008, Dunblane Hydro Hotel informed the Festival Chairman they were canceling our booking of the venue for Saturday, 7th March 2009, despite us having a confirmed contractual booking with them. They said this was due to a double booking for the venue but refused to give any details on how this had arisen.
The Festival Committee, with the support of the NAAFC Executive Committee, is actively pursuing the matter to ensure that we are provided with suitable facilities of at least the same standard at no extra cost, and that all Festival related accommodation bookings at Dunblane Hydro Hotel are refunded in full whether booked directly by them, or via a third party.
We will keep everyone as informed as possible via the B&F, BBC Radio Scotland and the B&F website. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause but we are prepared to take whatever action is necessary to rectify this matter. Whatever happens there will be a Festival on 7th March 2009.

Coupe Mondiale
by Gary Blair
The 2008 World Accordion Championships were held in The Normandy Hotel, Renfrew from 21st to 26th October. This year there were two candidates from Scotland representing the entire UK. Gary Blair Jnr and Andrew Mortiner (a pupil of Gary Snr) were both entered in the Junior Virtuoso Entertainment section. Gary Blair Jnr added to his five first places at the UK Accordion championship in March, with an amazing 4th place. Andrew Mortimer (who had dislocated his shoulder a couple of months before the event) ended up in a creditable 9th place.
Whilst it was a very well attended event, there was a very disappointing lack of support from the Scottish accordion public, with very few attending any of the event days.
The Saturday night finale ended with a rip-roaring Ceilidh supplied by The Gary Blair Ceilidh Band in what was described by the CIA President, Kevin Friedrich as, “The greatest ending to a Coupe Mondiale ever.”
The winners were as follows :
Senior Classical – Ulazzislav Plihauka (Belarus)
Junior Classical – Momir Novakovic (Serbia)
Piano Accordion Solo – Marko Miletic (Serbia)
Senior Entertainment – Eduard Akhamov (Russia)
Junior Entertainmant – Benoit Nortier (France)
