Year 19 No 7 – April 95
Our night started with our first guest who saw the Club meeting in the ‘B&F’ – we welcomed Wull Edmunds from Tranent and it was his first solo appearance – we fair enjoyed having him and what’s more he’s coming back – we could do with more players and visitors please!
This was followed by a duet from Margaret Lorimer and Margaret Hammond who after their tune played Happy Birthday to our bandleader, John Huband and a guest appearance of a ‘Kissagram’ schoolgirl who did the honours for his birthday – it was John’s turn to be ‘had’ for a change.
Down to the serious playing after that by the young members, starting with Alan McEwan then Gary Scroggie, Gail Cumming and Fiona Baillie. A special, rare performance from our 78-year-old Chairman, Dod Adam, known as ‘Dodie the Roadie’ with his 50+ year-old Hohner accordion playing Nan Adam (his wife) written by Calum MacLean of Mull. Dod has been with the band from the beginning, nearly 13 years and is a faithful supporter/worker of the band.
Next we had Margaret Gray who is six months pregnant and she too has been with the band many years, stopping off to have her other two children. Margaret and her family hail from Aberdeen and are loyal supporters of the band.
After the social break when we enjoyed our stovies, 200 Club/raffle, the band members present led by john and drummer Jock Stewart, who, kindly, along with John backs the performers, gave the company a taste of the tunes to be heard at our annual concert in the Reid Hall.
The proceeds will help the band who are frantically fund-raising to finance their third annual bus trip to Southern Ireland for a weekend. The group are really looking forward to going, as many friends have been made with the warm-hearted people of Ireland. In July last year a school band and dancers from County Mayo came to Dundee for a long weekend and we were able to return some of the great hospitality shown to us and share in the love of music.
You’ll be sorry you asked me now Ron, to write a wee bit – once I got started I remembered other items but I know you will edit.
