Neil MacMillan
Neil, originally from Balmaha (Loch Lomond), received some early encouragement from Dochie McCallum of Drymen who took him to hear The Hamish Menzies Band on several occasions. Neil played drums locally with Bill Black once when he was 16 at a dance in The Balmaha Tea Room. Then at 18 Jack Delaney gave him an opportunity to join the “Clachan Ceilidh” in Alloa, a group of youngsters Jack taught, and where Neil started by learning rhythm piano and later bass fiddle. When Hamish retired and Jack took over the band there was a vacancy for a bass player, which Neil filled. Since then he has played or guested with, amongst others, Grace MacCleaver, John Renton, Derek Lawrence, Ronnie Easton, Kenny Thomson, The Lothian Dance Band, Robert Whitehead, Callum Wilson, Iain MacPhail, Robert Black, Bill Black, Colin Finlayson and The Wallochmor Ceilidh Band. Neil is involved as an organiser of the popular Tradstyle event held annually in Perth.
