Year 20 No 3 - November 1996
Our first meeting as a new Club was held in the Masonic Hall, Lanark on 9th May 1996 and compere Colin McKinnon welcomed a good attendance.
First on stage were guest artistes, the ‘Lothian and Borders’ Trio, this being the bands first guest artiste spot for them and the new Club. The band members were John Fairbairn (lead accordion), Fiona Cairns (second accordion) and Alastair MacBeth (drums).
Other musicians on the night were, on accordions, David Millar, John Paterson, Mary Young. Mouth organ Hugh MacKenzie Drums Anne MacBeth and John Paterson.
At the start of the second half the raffle was drawn and then back to the musicians before the return of the guests to bring things to an end. John asked everyone up on stage including yours truly for a stramash.
Compere, Colin MacKinnon thanked everyone for their support during the evening.
The second meeting of the Club was held on 13th June, 1996, and got off to a good start with various musicians. The guest artistes were the Bill Black SDB who contributed to a very enjoyable evening.
The 1996-97 season got off to a successful start with players coming from as far afield as Troon and Glasgow with many local from the immediate area.
Starting off the night we had the Coalburn Ceilidh Band. On accordions we had Jim Brodie, Charlie Thomson, Peter Jardine, John Ritchie, Richard Smith, Jim Scott, Margaret Ferguson, John Weaks, Charlie Todd.

Drums – Charlie Todd
Guitar – Glen MacKenzie and Ian McFadyen.
To round off the first half it was the guest artiste’s spot being Andrew Knight and the West Telferton Band. Line-up on the night was Andrew on fiddle, Karen Higgins on accordion, Joanne Coburn one keyboard and Iain MacFadyen on drums.
The second half was taken over by the guests playing a selection of jigs, reels, marches etc with Karen on accordion playing a Swedish march.
At the close of the night Colin McKinnon thanked the musicians who came on the night and also Andrew and his band for their support during the evening.
