David Ross David Ross was born in 1934 in Mauchline, Ayrshire. On leaving school he served an apprenticeship as a motor mechanic and worked in the motor trade for the next 50 years. His father bought David a 3-row accordion at the age of 12 and he spent the next few years teaching himself how to play without any formal music lessons. In 1959 David bought his trusty Hohner Shand Morino – he was good friends with Sir Jimmy Shand and acknowledges that Sir Jimmy was a great influence on his playing. He married his wife Margaret in 1963 and their only daughter Lindsay was born in 1965. The David Ross Scottish Country Dance Band was also born in 1965 and for the last 50 years has played for RSCDS classes, dances and balls all over Scotland, England, Wales, Germany and many other places. David was Chairman of Galston Accordion Club for 38 years before it closed in 2006 and was NAAFC treasurer for 14 years. |
