Year 1 No 3 - December 1977
The Coquetdale A&F Club started their winter season in September with the Alistair Hunter Trio from Aberdeen, thanks to the kind co-operation of Alex Little from Dumfries. Everybody really enjoyed the wonderful selections and tremendous skill shown by the Trio.
The next meeting, 5th October, went with a bang with Paddy Neary, brand new to the Accordion and Fiddle Clubs. Thanks again to Alex Little and Sandy MacArthur. Sandy himself gave the Club some great entertainment, not only on his box, but also with his own brand of humour, eventually asking Alan Coulson and the boys to join him on stage. To be able to provide such tremendous talent month after month gives great pleasure to the Committee with only a membership of 120.
The 1st November meeting proved to be even better with a record attendance for the young Currie Brothers. They were given the warmest welcome that any guest artiste could wish for. Forbye the brothers there was Willie Atkinson on his mouth-organ ; Tom Harper on his new accordion – a ‘DuoArtist’ ; Joe Hatton, a well-known Northumberland piper ; the Davidson family from Tynemouth with Mr Davidson on accordion, and Mrs Davidson on piano, their two sons on string bass and pipes ; also on accordion was young Brian Fagan from Stakeford. December 14th sees the return visit of Arthur Spink.
Extra events were a concert held on 23rd September with Sean McGuire with support from Tom Gilfelton singing and playing guitar, Anthony and Carol Robb playing flute and Northumbrian pipes ; Alan Coulson, accordion, accompanied by Ian Murray on drums. Tom Edmondson opened the night with the help of Ian on the drums and Eddie Wright on piano.
A concert was held in the Rothbury Auction Mart Ring on 24th October, starring the Dermot O’Brien Trio. Supporting were the Bon Accords from Canonbie and Angus Cameron on fiddle. He was accompanied by Bill Cormack on piano. The two youngest pipers from Rothbury Pipe Band, Andrew Miller and Kevin Scott, gave some fine selections. The show was compered by Fred Calvert from Alnwick ; a first class concert and enjoyed by all, especially the fantastic Dermot O’Brien, this being his second visit. There were 300 present and the tickets could have been sold over and again if a place large enough could have been found.
Our Committee wish to congratulate all the people concerned with publishing the ‘B&F.’ It is, as they say, great stuff.

Year 1 No 7 - April 1978
March meeting of Croquetdale A&F Club once again was a fabulous night with the return (after a year) of Davie Stewart - David had a newcomer to the Club with him (on keyboard) he was Bob Moffat, back in Scotland after 20 years in Canada. I must compliment Davie on his selection of tunes, really good listening and really good entertainment.
Bob Moffat added to the show with a song or two which always makes a welcome change. The regular boys once again gave their best - and everyone showed their usual appreciation.
The biggest laugh of the night was when Bob Moffat got stripped off and into his kilt and found that he had forgotten his shoes, so he once again adorned himself with jacket and trousers.
April saw a newcomer to Rothbury, and to the Club. This time it was the turn of the fiddle and who better to put it through its paces than Ron Gonella. Ron can only be described as a virtuoso and I'm sure that he will always be in big demand. His accompaniment was provided by Alan Brown on his electric keyboard and proved to be a match for any artiste. Ron complimented Alan on his brilliant performance, and the Club Committee and members would like to say a special thank you to Alan for coming and making the night such a success.
The Border Band once again took the rostrum with the assistance of Alan and gave the audience a great selection of jigs, reels, marches and hoprpipes. Tommy Harper on accordion started off the night followed by young Brian Fagan.
The lambing time kept away some of the local artistes so that the guest artiste got his turn early in the night. After supper, the raffle was drawn then the entertainment resumed with Tommy Edmondson, Alan Brown and Ian Murray. Next month sees the return of Mickey Ainsworth and Jim Brown.
