Year 15 No 3 - November 1991
The inaugural meeting of Inveraray and District A&F Club took place in the Loch fine Hotel on Tuesday, 1st October. A full house was expected and the organisers were not disappointed, people from all ‘airts and pairts’ crowded into the Hotel looking forward to an entertaining evening.
The meeting was strongly supported by contingents from Dunoon & Cowal A&F Club, and the Dalriada Club from Lochgilphead.
Among the musicians in the first part of the evening were Jimmy Bradley, Jimmy Ross and Johnny Burns. A bonnie wee lass called Sarah Bell, delighted the audience with her sparkling dexterity, showing that traditions are still alive in the young – let’s hope more youngsters come along to A&F Clubs.
Norman Munro and our own John Renton played with their usual skill and enthusiasm and an array of drummers and pianists, including Jerry Boxall, Owen Fielding, Dodie Lauder, Ally McIntyre, John Peel and Agnes Liddell accompanied throughout the evening. Colin Forgrieve from Dunoon with Derek and Archie McDonald, Graham Irvine and Tom were also very able and welcome participants.
The guest artistes for the evening were The Donaldson Brothers, who came on to loud applause. They are no strangers to this part of the world and they played a marvelous tight set, with a very interesting selection of tunes, old, new, fast and slow, played with wonderful zeal and ability – these young men had the audience entranced.
A feature of this Club is going to be the stramash, as guest artistes, visiting players and locals all join together to the beat of the music.
Inveraray and district A&F Club would like to thank all who made a memorable evening, especially our ‘Par an Tigh’ Niall Ian McLean and our hosts Billy and Agnes.
