Year 35 No 02 – October 2011
The grand opening night of the Club got off to a great start with a superb venue and turnout of both audience and musicians. It was also great to see some well-known musicians, including Fred Hannah.
After a welcome to the new Club from the chairman, Jim Rush, the evening got underway with some local musicians.
I was first up with my accordion, accompanied by the Club’s MD Ken Hopkins. Ken then played a number of tunes before accompanying Nigel Black and Elaine Allen on accordion and tin whistle.
Fiddle players Jim Creaney and Kenny Thompson provided the audience with some lovely music.
Jim then introduced our guest artiste for the evening who was none other than Seamus Shannon from Athlone, Co, West Meath. Seamus entertained the audience with a wide variety of music and along with his banter was an outstanding artiste. A tremendous artiste for our first night.
After the tea, local fiddle player Dominic McNabb and accordion player James McElheran entertained the crowd accompanied by Ken. Next to show off their talents were Gary Currie and Larry Harte on accordion and guitar.
We then had some more toe-tapping tunes from Seamus before all fourteen musicians joined Seamus for a session to finish a fantastic evening.
To finish a tremendous first evening Jim thanked everyone for coming to support the new Club.
John Morgan will be our guest on 5th October
