Tommy Lees – Obituary
by Jenny Shaw
Tommy Lees sadly, died in hospital in London on 10th August, 2014, aged 72.
Tommy was originally from Kirkcaldy, but had lived and worked in London for many years.
He was the best exponent of the jig on second accordion, as Billy Thom expressed it, “an outstanding second box player with a unique style, especially in jigs”. In the late 60’s and early 70’s he was a member of Jim Johnstone’s Band and part of the White Heather Club with Andy Stewart.
For the past few years he played with Ritchie Ahearne’s Dalcassian Band. He also played in a care home for retired musicians and entertainers, where he was very much appreciated.
He will be greatly missed.
