Year 2 No 3 - December 1978
Though the Coupar Angus Club has only been formed a few months we have had a fair turnout of players every month, though, perhaps, with the winter evenings we shall see an increase in audience and musicians. Any musicians locally will be very welcome to come along to do his turn.
Among the artistes we have had were John Crawford, Micky Ainsworth and Bill Black and Family.
November guest spot was Bill Douglas and his Broadcasting Band who were really appreciated. During his two spots, the band held the audience with a varied selection of reels, jigs and waltzes. Features from his repertoire were fiddle solo ‘The Northlands’ from Bill on fiddle and ‘The Thingummyjig Polka’ from Tommy Newcomen on accordion. Another feature was the ‘Anniversary Jig’ arranged by Bill, who had the music sent from an enthusiast in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Supporting artistes were Dave Cochrane and Abb McFarlane on Continental accordions. A great sound chaps.
Local fiddler Ally Ritchie was in top form with Shetland reels, polkas and ‘The Hen’s March.’
We gave a warm welcome to Dundee fiddler Willie Shepherd who played some Scott Skinner selections with great feeling. Also on the programme we had ballad singer George Hepburn Duo. A lovely Highland dancer completed the entertainment, accompanied by Tommy Newcomen, piano accordion, Angela Fullarton on piano, Bill Morgan, bass and David Duncan, drums, finishing up with ‘Kate Dalrymple.’
We look forward to having Arthur Spink on 5th December.
