Year 23 No 2 - October 1999
Cults club opened its new season with a first time guest to the Club – John Bone, Senior Accordion champion, accompanied by Robert Lovie on keyboard. They played a fine and varied selection of music, including Scottish, Irish and Classical. Club members and visitors alike greatly enjoyed their performance.
We had quite a number of musicians in attendance, who all gave credible performances. On accordion we were entertained by Charlie Kidd, Frank Stephen (a visitor from Ellon Club), Bob Pratt, David Hoskins( also Ellon), Johnny Walker, Mhairi Shand, Jock Grieve, Harold Smith and Charlie Lawie. Special mention should be made of the performance of young Kevin Yeats, an accordion pupil of John bone, who accompanied him on the keyboard. Kevin played two tricky selections and I think we will be hearing more of him in the future.
We had two fiddlers entertaining us – Jock Cummings and Susan Simpson, three backing pianists – Rosie Kellas, Stanley Flett and myself and three drummers – Jack Stephen, George Sim and Alistair Walker. A selection on the mouth organ was given by Betty Burnett.
All in all a very varied and enjoyable start to our new season.
