Year 5 No 2 October 1981
The opening night of Islesteps A&F Club was held in the Cargenholm Hotel, Dumfries and judging by the enthusiastic crowd who came along, many to their first Accordion Club ever, it should be an evening to thoroughly look forward to each month.
Compere Tony Dalton welcomed everyone, and introduced the players for the evening. Selections were given on accordion by John Douglas, Gary Coupland, Jimmy Edwards, Avery Anderson, Keith Wilson, Roger Dobson with daughter Carol on fiddle and Tony Dalton.
Variety was provided by Rene McArthur and Graham Campbell playing fiddle, and Hugh Hanlon with the mouth organ. On piano Bill Hayward and Gary Copeland played accompaniments, with the assistance of Willie Duncan and Robert Smith on drums.
Highlight of the evening was the first guest artist – a local man, Ian Holmes and his band. The sound produced by these talented musicians captured the audience completely. Ian himself can play such a variety of music from different instruments and with the backing of his experienced band the sound was excellent. A tremendous start for the Club.
The Club will be meeting on the first Tuesday every month in the Cargenholm Hotel, New Abbey Road, Dumfries.

Year 5 No 3 November 1981
Islesteps A&F Club has now held two further meetings in Cargenholm with an audience of around 150 each evening. The guests in September were The Lothianaires. This young duo really delighted the listeners with their selections. It is so refreshing to see such talented young people – may I add that so seldom do we see a female in the guest spot! Certainly made the males sit up and take note!
In October The Donaldson Brothers were guests of the Club. The boys traveled from Thurso Club the previous evening to entertain us and this they did in their usual impeccable style.
Local players during the two evenings were :-
Accordion – Robert Nugent, Keith Wilson, Jimmy Edwards, Avery Anderson, Ian Edgar, Janice and Linda Gray, John Douglas, Margaret Holmes, Marcel Rivard, William Murray, Walter Beattie, Gary Copeland, David Vernon and tony Dalton.
Keyboard – James Clark, Edith Murchie and Ian Holmes.
Drums – Jackie Bonnar, Stevie Beattie, Willie Duncan and Stewart Sneddon.
Fiddle – Graham Campbell, Bobby McBride, Bill McNab and Duncan Glendinning.
Mouth organ – Hugh Hanlon.
We are looking forward very much to a visit from Bill Black and Family in November, followed ion December by George Stirrat and Jimmy Yeaman.
