Year 2 No 5 - February 1979
Monklands District A&F Club held their second meeting in December when they had 46 people present. The Committee were delighted with the response. They also had 12 players and a special visit from Billy Marshall. Altogether they had a most enjoyable night.

Year 2 No 6 - March 1979
The monthly meeting of the recently-formed Monklands District A&F Club took place on Monday, 5th February, at Kenilworth Hotel, Motherwell Street, Airdrie.
We were delighted at the response to our new Club when 40-50 people turned up. The playing standard in Monklands District is very high, considering most of our members are under 16 years of age.
Morag Robertson opened the evening on accordion, followed by Kenneth Brown, Gordon Thomson, Jane Chambers, Findlay Robertson, Gordon Walker, John Boyle and David McAree all on accordion.
We also had George Laurie on fiddle. Unfortunately we only had one fiddler this month, but we hope for more next month.
We missed a ‘weel kent face’ on Monday in Mr George McLean who has flu, but he’ll be back next month with his diatonic box.
As yet funds do not allow us a guest artiste, but I hope the forthcoming year will bring good luck and prosperity to our new Club and all its members.
Our next Club night will be on Monday, 5th March, 1979, at 7.30pm in Kenilworth Hotel and thereafter the first Monday every month. All visitors and members will be made very welcome.

Year 2 No 7– April 1979
Monklands District A&F Club held its monthly Club night on Monday, 5th March. The attendance was slightly down, but considering the weather it was hardly surprising.
Gordon Walker opened our evening with ‘Bel Viso’ included in his programme. In Gordon we have a very promising player. My own son, Findlay Robertson, was next on the accordion, playing us some toe-tappers, including ‘The Bonnie Lass o’ Bon Accord’ and making steady progress in the right direction.
Keeping up the female side we had Shirley Park giving us some lovely melodies with a nice gentle style. Young Kenneth Brown came next and we all enjoyed singing along to his choice of well known songs, and, as always, he played very well. Next we had Gordon Thomson, a young man with a good steady style and touch, mastered by himself. One of his selections was ‘Shufflin’ Samuel’ played, as were all his tunes, without mistakes.
Following Gordon we had the boy with the lightening fingers, John Morgan, who opened with ‘Reine de Mesette’ followed by a set of hornpipes. Here we have a young man whom, I feel, must have afuture in the accordion playing world.
David Hayes came next, delighting us with some not so well known melodies, played in his own gentle and pleasing style. David was a new face with us.
John Boyle, also on accordion, came next, and here we have a young man who has improved greatly since first attending the Club. He has been developing, successfully, anew style for himself. He played us some well-known, toe-tapping music.
Lastly, Morag Robertson gave a short demonstration on her new Crucianelli electronic. This is a wonderful instrument and she is extremely pleased with it.
Our next Club night is on Monday, 2nd April, at 7.30pm. We have moved premises now to the Georgian Hotel, Lefroy Street, Coatbridge. Our guest artistes will be Malcolm McLean on accordion, accompanied by Frank Henery on guitar. So this promises to be a great night. All visitors will be made very welcome.
