Biggar A&F Club held their final meeting of the 1992/93 season in the Municipal Hall, Biggar on Sunday, 11th April.
A packed hall enjoyed a fine night of musical entertainment with a total of 27 players in attendance ; 13 accordionists, 5 pianists, 4 drummers, 4 fiddlers and a Lowland piper.
Playing accordion were Peter Jardine, Charlie Thomson, Davie Coke, Mary Young, Andrew Young, Angus Lyon, Jean McConnachie, Kenneth Johnstone, Bob fortune, Ann Wall, Tom Porteous and Alan Gardiner.
Keyboard players for the evening were George Walker, Brian Keachie, Jean McConnachie, Steven Johnstone and Dorothy Lawson.
On drums we had Ian Graham, Andrew Ballantyne, Tom Hope and John Anderson.
Annie Robertson, Gilbert Logan, Roy Stewart (Thurso) and Emma Rayworth plaed fiddle while Jim McConnachie (now Dumfries) was the ‘lone’ Lowland piper.
Guest artistes for the evening were Gordon Shand and his SDB from Tillicoutry. The band’s fine swing and musical arrangements kept both the dancing and musical fraternity in the hall until the final set. Gordon showed great control and technique on his 5-row button box, able accompanied by Tom Hamilton (fiddle), Graham Berry (piano) and Billy O’Donnell (drums). A polished performance indeed.

Biggar A&F Club held the first meeting of the new session in the usual venue of the Municipal Hall on Sunday, 12th September, with a good turnout of musicians and audience.
On accordions were John Anderson, Charlie Thomson, Agnes Hope, Ian Graham, Angus Lyon, Bob Fortune, John Laidlaw, Alan Gardiner, Stuart Lochie, Morag Robertson and Jason Dove.
Keyboard players were George Walker, Dorothy Lawson and Alan Gardiner, whilst on fiddles we had Gilbert Logan, Annie Robertson and Emma Rayworth.
Brian Thomson, Ian Graham and John Anderson played drums.
Guest artistes for the evening were the Ian Muir Sound, comprising Ian on accordion, Colin Bell on keyboard and Derek Hamilton on drums and vocals. They treated us to a varied programme of traditional, Continental and modern arrangements which were greatly enjoyed and left the audience clamouring for more.

Making a welcome change for the October meeting, our guest artiste was Alistair McCulloch, fiddle player from Ayr, ably backed by Morag McAskill on keyboard. Together, they treated us to some beautiful slow airs and lively hornpipes, jig, reels, some of which were Alistair’s own compositions – a treat indeed.
Other players were, on accordion – Peter Jardine, Jean McConnachie, Angus Lyon, Davie Coke, John Laidlaw, John Anderson, Ian Graham, Bob Fortune, Alan Gardiner and Keith Dickson.
David Corner played concertina and on fiddles were Gilbert Logan and Emma Rayworth.

January 1994 got off to a great start with a good turnout of audience and players.
Local bandleader Callum Wilson was the guest artiste with his SDB comprising Callum on 1st accordion, Arthur Speed on 2nd accordion, Paul Jordan on fiddle, Callum’s wife Ena on piano and George Shiels on drums.
Other players were John Anderson, Agnes Hope, Jean McConnachie, Charlie Todd, Angus Lyon, Alan Gardiner, Kenny Johnstone, and Davie Coke on accordions, Gilbert Logan and Emma Rayworth on fiddle, Brian Keachie, Dorothy Lawson, Iain Wilson and Steven Johnstone on piano and Charlie Todd played drums with Jim McConnachie on Lowland pipes.

Winter weather fairly depleted the numbers for our December meeting. However, those who did brave the elements were treated to an excellent evening of music from the guest artistes and Club players alike.
Guests from Stirling were the Ian Thomson SDB, Ian on lead accordion, Tom Lapsley on fiddle, Mark Cummine on 2nd accordion, Anne Rutherford on keyboard and Duncan Burns on drums.
Other players were, on accordion Davie Coke, bob Fortune, Alan Gardiner, Ian Graham, Allan Smith, Jim Paterson, John Anderson and Keith Dickson.
Gilbert Logan played fiddle, Dorothy Lawson and George Walker keyboard and Brian Thomson, Ian Graham and John Anderson played drums and we had a couple of songs from John Caskie.
Alistair Gillespie’s Accordion Orchestra played to a full house at our February meeting. The Elementary Orchestra conducted by Keith Robertson started off with a fine, varied programme, whilst the Intermediate Orchestra closed the evening with a rousing selection under the baton of musical director, Alistair Gillespie.

The West Telferton Caledonain SDB were guests at the March meeting of the Biggar Club. Leader, on fiddle, Andrew Knight, with Richard Ross and first accordion, Ian Hutson on second, Russell Hunter on keyboard and George McLeod on drums. They gave us a couple of excellent sessions which left the audience clamouring for more.
We also had a large turnout of ‘local’ players. On accordions John Anderson, Jean McConnachie, Jim Brodie, Charlie Thomson, Bob Fortune, Charlie Todd, Karen Higgins, Davie Coke, Jim Paterson, Colin Brown, Alan Gardiner and Ian Graham.
