Year 20 No 6 - March 1996
A large crowd turned out on a bitterly cold night when Annan (St Andrews) A&F Club held their first meeting of 1996 in St Andrews Social Club in Annan on Sunday, 21st January.
M.C. angus White welcomed the guests for the evening – the Roger Dobson SDB. Line up was Roger on lead box, Alex Graham on second accordion, Carol Dobson on fiddle, Ian Wilson on keyboard and Billy Goodfellow on drums.
Roger soon had the temperatures soaring with his great selection of dance tunes, some old favourites with a few not so well-known interspersed throughout the evening. (As you may note from this report, our club, new to the Association, believe in enjoying not only listening to accordion and fiddle music but also dancing to it. This means most Club nights our hall is filled to capacity).
The band played for the first 45 minutes then it was the turn of our players who formed into groups and continued to play for dancing. These were – on accordion Karen Higgins, Ian Gracie, Charlie Todd, Jean McConnachie, Stuart Adamson, Lynne Glendinning, Peter Wood and Edith Beaton.
On button key Willie Edwards.
On keyboard Peter Wood and Brian Ketchie.
On Lowland pipes Jim McConnachie
On fiddle Gilbert Logan
And on drums Peter Davidson, Charlie Todd and Tom Hope.
The usual tea and sandwiches were served at half-time and after drawing the raffle, the music and dancing continued with both the members and players enjoying themselves so much that we overran closing time by 15 minutes.
